254SMO, also designated as UNS S31254 and W.Nr. 1.4547, is a high-end austenitic stainless steel known for its exceptional resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking. With high levels of molybdenum (up to 6%) and nitrogen, 254SMO offers performance comparable to some nickel-based alloys in seawater and aggressive chemical environments.
254SMO is widely used in seawater desalination, chemical processing, offshore oil and gas, pulp and paper bleaching equipment, and heat exchangers. Its excellent weldability, durability, and superior corrosion resistance make it a preferred material for demanding applications where conventional stainless steels may fail.
